• New Voices: Curator Mentorship Program

    CALL FOR APPLICATIONS
  • All proposals must be received by Sunday, 1 December 2019 (11:59pm EST)

  • A unique opportunity for early- to mid-career music curators, seeking new artistic and professional development opportunities.

Soundstreams, a leading presenter of new music in Toronto, is currently accepting proposals to collaborate on a project in our 2020/21 Main Stage series, as part of our “New Voices” program.

One applicant will be selected to work with Soundstreams’ team and artistic director Lawrence Cherney over a 1-year period to realize their proposed concept. They will also work with other senior staff to develop practical skills to evaluate cultural, aesthetic, marketable, and financial aspects of programming in a mid-sized performing arts company.

The successful applicant will receive a fee of $2,000, and access to a project budget of up to $5,000 to produce a concert in Toronto. Soundstreams will also provide access to our offices, and ample support from our administrative and production team to realize this project.

  • PROPOSAL GUIDELINES

  • At Soundstreams, we believe in the power of new music to inspire ‘cultural conversations’ around a theme. We frequently frame these conversations through four programming approaches:

    1. Highlighting important Canadian stories and perspectives
    2. Intercultural interpretations of a theme or concept
    3. Cross-genre explorations of a theme or concept
    4. Contextualizing Canadian artists with historical works and international contemporaries

Soundstreams is particularly interested in proposals that:

    • Have a strong and unifying theme or concept
    • Have social/cultural resonance for audiences that will vary greatly in their previous exposure to new music
    • Prioritize new and diverse perspectives

Program length must be approx. 60-80 minutes.
    Concert venue capacity: 100-130 people
