  • Tuition Cost Fund

  • The Tuition Costs Fund (TCF) is available to members of Units 1 and 2 and was established "to assist employees in paying university/college/educational institution tuition costs for courses/programmes related to their employment."

    Criteria: 

    • The TCF is a reimbursement fund, which means that expenses must have been incurred prior to applying and, if applicable, the course/programme must have already taken place or commenced prior to the Committee's adjudication
    • The TCF only covers the costs of tuition for eligible courses/programmes and does not cover expenses such as transportation (for expenses of this nature, consider applying to the Professional Development Fund).
    • The TCF cannot be used to cover the costs of regular graduate tuition fees incurred at York University. There are two exceptions:
      • Unit 2 members who are ineligible for the Tuition Waiver may apply to the fund, and
      • Members who have completed their PhDs, but are enrolled in additional specific courses or programs at York may apply to the fund
    • Members are only eligible for one TCF award per Collective Agreement year
    • The maximum award per member per year is capped at $1,200.

    Due Date: August 31st of each Collective Agreement year

  • Disbursements: The Tuition Cost Fund is adjudicated and disbursed in early Fall. Due to the finite nature of the fund, eligible members will normally receive only partial reimbursement for actual tuition costs incurred.

    Once the Committee has adjudicated, members will be informed as to the result of the application. Should the Committee require additional information, the Committee will email the member with the provided email, though this will cause a delay in the adjudication of the file.
