  • If there is a particular project where you wanted to serve and you found that it was full, please email Bob Stroud at bob_stroud@bellsouth.net . Please include your name, the project name, and how best to contact you. Since there are other projects available to us, your input may help us secure another place where we can both deliver Hope and serve the community.

    • Laundromat Ministry
    • Laundromat Ministry (5 pm-7 pm)

Provide a blessing to someone by paying for a free load of laundry. This will be a great way to build a relationship while being a blessing them. Please meet at the Fairview Fellowship Hall first. Then you will be sent out with quarters and Jesus to spread Hope. Note: If you speak Spanish, please know this ministry will be strengthened with your support as a volunteer.

    • Greer Soup Kitchen Indoor Projects & Serving Meal
    • Greer Soup Kitchen (9 am- 1 pm)

There are some areas of the building that need some reorganizing (food storage, closets, etc.). Then around 11:00 these projects will stop and everyone will begin with helping with all parts of serving the daily meal, including the daily clean-up.

    • Greer Soup Kitchen Painting
    • Greer Soup Painting (8 am- 11 am)

: Volunteers will be painting three bathrooms, one each day (previous painting experience needed). This project may be completed in only 2 days because the third bathroom is small.

    • Greer Soup Kitchen Outdoor Projects
    • Greer Soup Kitchen Outdoor Projects (8:00 am- 11 am)

Sometimes serving is “providing a cup of cold water…”, and sometimes because of your serving, you may need someone to give you a cup of cold water. There are a variety of projects to be accomplished during these scheduled times. One will be pressure washing the building (2 days), and the 3rd day will be a variety of projects related to gardening (pruning, weeding, maybe planting some flowers). Let’s support this ministry, which is vital to our community, by helping with these maintenance-type projects that are vital, along with them being an encouragement to many.

    • Greer Relief Food Pantry
    • Greer Relief Food Pantry (9:00 am - 11:30 am)

Sort food donations, stock shelves, and put together food bags which will be given out to clients as they come in. This will also include some general organization of the food area. Meet Evan McLeod at Greer Relief at 9am on Friday 8/9.

    • Greer Relief Cleaning & Painting
    • Greer Relief Cleaning & Painting (9:00 am - 12 noon)

Wow, on Saturday 8/10, we have a variety of opportunities here. We can use 4 people to paint a small conference room (previous panting experience is all you would need to bring with you!), and the rest of the team will spread out all over the building doing things like cleaning windows, cleaning scuff marks from walls and doors, mopping floors, etc. We have the opportunity to bring some Hope into this building in maybe an unusual way. We all like to go into clean areas – imagine the encouragement you may bring to not only the workers, but to those who are going through a difficult season in their life. Meet Evan McLeod at Greer Relief at 9am on Saturday 8/10.

    • Greer Community Ministry Senior Dining
    • Greer Community Ministries Senior Dining (8:30 am - 12 noon)

Volunteers will ride with the bus drivers to pick up seniors for this weekday lunch event (2 volunteers per bus). Volunteers will enjoy building relationships with the seniors, enjoy serving and eating with them, and then cleaning up the dining area after everyone leaves. Meet at the Greer Community Ministries building at 8:30 am, and please see Bill Broadus.

    • Greer Community Ministries School Supplies
    • Greer Community Ministries School Supplies (8:30 am - 12 noon)

This project may just be the reason our pastors felt led to select the dates for our second Hope Weekend of 2019. As you probably know, GCM requests donations of school supplies. This week is the first week these school supplies are given out, and our volunteers will be part of this special ministry. Volunteers will help with the packing of bags as needed, and will possibly help clients as they fill out the forms. Meet at Greer Community Ministries at 8:30am, and please see Maureen Bryan.

Special Note: Additionally, GCM will need volunteers every day the next week, 8/12 thru 8/16, to do the same thing. Hopefully some of those that sign up would be able to volunteer again to help at least one day during the week of 8/12 (is so, please see Bob Stroud). Or, if the week of 8/12 is a better week for you to serve than 8/8 thru 8/10, please see Bob Stroud.

    • Greer Community Ministries Clothes Closet
    • Greer Community Ministries Clothes Closet (9:00 am- 12 noon)

Volunteers will be involved in the changeover from summer clothing to fall/winter, and there will be plenty of sorting of clothes and stocking them neatly on the clothing racks and shelves. You will also be involved in the changeover from summer clothing to fall/winter. Meet at Greer Community Ministries at 9am, and please see Maureen Bryan.

    • Greer Community Ministries Meals on Wheels Driver
    • Greer Community Ministries Meals on Wheels Driver (10:00 am-12 noon)

You can be a double blessing by helping as a Meals on Wheels driver. You can be a blessing to those whom Meals on Wheels serves, but you can also be a blessing to a regular driver by giving them the day off. You can sign up for one day, or you can sign up and serve both Thursday and Friday, and you can deliver the same route both days. Please feel free to bring along someone with you to be your navigator. Please see Karen Roughton at 10:00 am at Greer Community Ministries. And here’s a really important part…Please sign up by no later than Thursday, July 25th – the names of the drivers must be turned in on Friday, July 26th.

    • Homeless Mat Construction
    • Homeless Mat Construction

      August 6th (2:00 pm - 4:00 pm)

      August 22nd (6:00 pm - 8:00 pm)

Fairview has a team of people currently crocheting sleep mats for the homeless. They would like for you to join them. The neat thing about the mat is, because of the construction, it keeps the person dry as they are lying on it when the ground is wet. Mats are made out of the plastic bags you get  from your grocery store, drug store, Walmart, etc. It takes about 600 plastic bags to make one, along with 100 hours of time. Do not worry if you do not know how to crochet because there are many other ways you can contribute. People are needed to straighten the bags, fold them, cut them, and tie the strips together, all before the crocheting into the mat can begin. Monthly work schedules are First Tuesday, from 2:00pm until 4:00pm, and Third Thursday, from 6:00pm until 8:00pm, of each month in the Fairview Fellowship Hall. The meeting dates for August are listed above. As I am sure you already understand, one mat is a tremendous labor of love! Please join the team.
