• Watkins-Farnum Performance Scale Recorder

For use in study with Joel Windsor
  • This assessment is part of a study being conducted by Joel Windsor, MME, RMT. The purpose of this study is to assess the development of musical knowledge, collaboration, and in this particular instance, performance skill and the impact that beginning band in different grade levels in different schools has. I want to find out how you think, feel and behave when working with other students to learn musically.

The results from this research will be used to identify the most appropriate grade level to begin instruction in concert band methods. Also, it is expected that information from this study will also demonstrate how collaborative learning is encouraged from participation in concert band over time.

    Please be informed:

    • Your results will be kept confidential.
    • Your teacher will not see your individual responses to any of the questions.
    • Your answers will not affect your grades in any way.
    • You are free to discontinue at any time.
  • In this assessment, you will be asked to record as many entries from the Watkins-Farnum Performance Scale as you feel comfortable doing.

You do not need to do every Entry on the page provided.

You do, however, need to do at least the first two.  Once you have recorded it, (and only record it once), make a decision as to whether or not you think you played enough measures accurately.  You are asked to continue until you get to the point where you have played 2 entries with at least ten errors in a row.

Example: Tara plays Entry 1.  She feels she has done well, and checks that box.  Tara then plays Entry 2, but feels she did poorly.  This form will still require that she tries Entry 3 anyway.  If she still feels she did poorly, then she is done, because she has done 2 in a row poorly.

Do not take more than 15 seconds between each Entry.

Thank you for participating in this study.
