Adoption Application Requirements

To be considered for adoption through Windy City Canine Rescue, applicants must:

Be at least 21 years of age.
Have the knowledge and consent of all adults residing in the household.
Complete the adoption application in its entirety (including LAST NAME of all individuals in the home). Incomplete applications will not be considered, and due to the volume of applications we receive, we may be unable to contact applicants regarding missing information.
Understand that submission of an application does not guarantee approval for adoption. All applications are subject to review, and final adoption decisions are made at the discretion of Windy City Canine Rescue Adoption Committee.

Are you willing to accept financial responsibility for all routine, preventative, and unexpected veterinary expenses? Please be aware that small breed dogs may require annual dental cleanings and ongoing dental care to maintain their health.

Are you willing to provide your new dog with a minimum one-month adjustment period to acclimate to its new environment, household, and daily routine?

If you currently have other pets, do you believe they will adjust appropriately to the introduction of a new dog into the household?

Are any members of your household allergic to pets? If yes, please describe the severity of the allergies and how they are managed within the home.

If you move at any point in the future, what plans would you have in place for your pet? Please explain how you would maintain appropriate care and a suitable living environment for the dog during and after the transition.

On average, how much time per day will the dog be left alone without human companionship? Please include a typical weekday and weekend estimate if they differ.

Are there any situations in which the dog would be tethered or tied outdoors? If so, please provide details regarding the circumstances and duration.

Please describe how you would house-train a dog, including your approach to establishing a routine and reinforcing good habits. Please note that although a dog may appear house-trained while in our care, setbacks can occur in a new home, and we ask that you explain how you would handle such situations.
