The Report of the Healing and Reconciliation Design team,
, which was adopted by General Assembly in 2006, emphasizes the need for members of The Presbyterian Church in Canada to facilitate relationship building between Indigenous and non-Indigenous neighbours. Healing and Reconciliation will arise as we build community, learn about each other, and find ways to support each other.
The Report identified the following as activities which will contribute to building understanding and better relationships between church members and Indigenous people:
1. Engaging in conversations with Indigenous peoples about their lives, their traditions, and their spirituality;
2. Exploring issues of concern to Indigenous people in Canada today; and,
3. Developing activities and experiences for bringing together Indigenous and non-Indigenous people, including initiatives for youth.
To help members of the PCC begin the process of building new relationships, seed funding is available to support local initiatives. This form may be used to submit an application for funding.
